In Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged, the dollar sign ($) is a central symbol representing free trade, human reason, and earned productive achievement, famously linked to Francisco d'Anconia’s famous "money speech" and John Galt’s final gesture. At the very end of the book, over a collapsed and desolate world ruined by coercion, John Galt raises his hand and traces the sign of the dollar in the air.
